Miami, Florida, March 07, 2005 - Calling all golf lovers! If you have ever imagined competing in a tournament featuring fabulous prizes on two world-class courses, designed by the best in the industry, in tropical Cancun- Riviera Maya , Mexico, here is your chance. Palace Resorts is pleased to announce the second annual Cancun Classic on October 12 th - 14 th , with practice rounds on October 11 th .
Open to golfers of all skill levels, the tournament will be played at both the Moon Spa & Golf Club and the Playacar Spa & Golf Club. The Moon Spa & Golf Club is home to the only Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course in Cancun and is set on the rolling Cancun-Riviera Maya landscape. This 27-hole championship course hosted the 46th edition of the Mexican Open and was the site of the 2003 American Express Tour de Las Americas that featured participants from South America, Central America, Mexico, and the Caribbean.
The Playacar Spa & Golf Club is r ecognized as one of the top courses in the world and is as challenging as it is beautiful. Designed by renowned architect Robert Van Hagge, this 18-hole, par 72 course, carved from the dense Mayan jungle, will inspire golfers with its competitive course surrounded by lush foliage and aquamarine waters.
The tournament play will feature a scramble of two players in the Stableford Cancun format, where 50 percent of the sum of the handicaps of both players is considered. It will be based upon the rules and regulations of the US Golf Association that have been adopted by the Mexican Golf Federation. Registration before May 15 th is $400.00 for individuals and $800.00 for teams. After the 15 th , it is $500.00 for individuals and $1,000.00 for teams.
The top three tournament finishers will be awarded luxury, all-inclusive vacation packages at Palace Resorts and trophies to commemorate their achievements. In addition, skilled golfers who make a hole in one on the seventeenth green on either course will win a luxury car, while those who get closest to the pin on select holes can win a Cartier or Rolex watch or a laptop.
